Easy Pumpkin Flax Dog Biscuits
Did you know that it is really easy to make your own dog biscuits? These healthy vegan treats require only 3 ingredients to make and my dogs LOVE them.
I regularly give my dogs pumpkin, so putting it in their dog treats was a no-brainer. It’s full of nutrition and also helps with digestion. The fiber in pumpkin can help when our canine friends are dealing with either constipation or diarrhea.
The flax seeds in this recipe act as a binder, helping to hold the biscuits together. They are also full of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. These good fats are great for your pup’s skin and coat and their anti-inflammatory properties also provide a boost to your friend’s immune system.
Oats are a great grain for dogs. They are especially good for dogs who are sensitive to wheat and other grains. In this recipe, oats offer additional anti-inflammatory properties and, like flax seeds, are good for your pup’s skin and coat.
I found these cute cookie cutters that are perfect for making dog biscuits. Let me know if you try this recipe! Tag me on Instagram @theveganicpanic and show me a cute picture of your dog!
Easy Pumpkin Flax Dog Biscuits
Ingredients
- 1 cup plus 2 TBSP rolled oats
- 2 Tbsp ground flax seeds
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- In a blender, blend 1 cup plus 2 Tbsp of rolled oats. Blend to the consistency of flour.
- Set aside 2 Tbsp. of the oat flour you just made. You will use this later when rolling out the dough.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the remaining oat flour, the ground flax seeds and the pumpkin puree. Mix well until a ball of dough forms.
- Sprinkle the oat flour you set aside on the counter or a cutting board. Place the dough ball on the surface and roll it out to 1/8" thickness. I find that it is easiest to place a sheet of parchment paper over the dough when rolling it out. This prevents the dough from sticking to the rolling pin and makes it easy to get a uniform thickness.
- Cut the dough into your preferred shape. I like to use cute little cookie cutters. Heart shapes and dog bone shapes are my favorite.
- Place the biscuits on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake at 375F for 12-15 minutes (larger biscuits take longer to cook than smaller ones), until the biscuits are just starting to brown.
- Remove from oven and let the biscuits cool completely. This is important for two reasons: You don't want to give your dog hot biscuits and the treats will get crunchy when they cool.
